Old Mill Lakes is set in a rural location overlooking the Lincolnshire Wolds with stunning views. The 50 acre site was purchased back in 2006 by Chris Marler and Jo Thompson from the local farmer with the intention of creating Lincolnshire’s finest carp fishery. Originally the site of a small mill lake and house, much work has so far gone into realising this aim. Phase 3 is now almost complete with “Birch” extended into an 8 acre lake. Some additional stockings have taken place for Birch throughout 2013 to increase the stock to 108 large fish and a further 50 baby stockies the best of which are already starting to make double figures. The original 80 fish in Birch have continued to grow well with 17 different fish confirmed at over 30lb and a further 20+ fish that could push through 30lb in 2014; taking the number of 30lb+ fish well through 30 fish! The fishery’s long term future has also been secured with the erection of a state of the art otter fence costing around £12,000; this will prevent otter predation becoming a problem in the future and ensure the carp at Old Mill Lakes comtinue to go from strength to strength. “Willow” continues to provide excellent sport for specimen carp into the upper twenties no matter what the weather throws at you! It is not uncommon for Willow to provide the odd snow carp, testament to the lakes ability to throw up a carp or two in even the coldest of weather! Willow contains around 200 fish averaging around 17/18lb with a good head of fish having broken through 20lb. We will be netting Willow this winter to remove more of the baby carp to further increase growth rates next year; it is hoped that 2014 will see Willow produce it’s first 30lb carp.
